That's the new argument I'm hearing now that completely misses the point of the "excessive hate" that Shadows is receiving. If Yasuke is "optional," why go through the effort of having him front and center for marketing AND the cover art? Why did Wikipedia have to
block edits so that Yasuke could fit into that narrative Ubisoft created for a video game?
Ignoring the cultural war regarding Shadows for a second, people wanted Japan for Assassin's Creed for a while and Ubisoft blundered that fanfare potential for DEI purposes, hence Yasuke. So yes, it is "optional" but so is not buying the game.
