Even in states that get shit on for having horrible health care, there exists low cost treatment options for those who have mental health concerns. Problem is that those community mental health providers are the bottom of the barrel in terms of quality and skill or crusaders who believe they are giving something back to society. They get paid peanuts compared to those in private practice since they're government workers.

only requires effort.
that's just too much for phil "the camera is fine" burnell

I think he genuinely has depression in the form of feeling melancholic about his life and his job, which could genuinely slide into moderate or severe depression if he doesn't get help/changes, but he does NOT have the level of depression he goes on about and tries to relate to his chat with. He seems to think he has AT LEAST moderate depression, but I highly doubt the DEPRESSION has been behind all the shitty things he has done over the years; his personality and OWN UNADULTERED CHOICES are the reason, and THEY led to his depression. Not the other way around.
but you know phil will never fix that, he needs that instant gratification of getting cash
he needs that next hit of bits then time to slunch into the couch and get a buzz of gin

He's fairly narcissistic, when his envy or moral compass act up he feels bad and to him that's depression.

Just keep in mind that doctors aren't cheap. Not everyone has the money to see a doctor, let alone see a doctor over a sustained period of time.

But yeah, if you're gonna read webmd then at least read up on shit you can actually do that costs no money. Because there is a lot you can do to help that doesn't cost any money and only requires effort.
DSP has what's still colloquially called Obamacare and it covers counselling and psychiatry along with any prescription medication recommended by a psychiatrist.

My thinking is that Phil has finally come to the brutal realization that what he is currently bringing in on a monthly basis.... is as good as it's going to get. He knows his twitch isn't going to grow to an extent to where he believes it should be, and he may even somewhat blame himself for that because of his tweet last month. That realization, coupled with the very real, and much steeper tax calculations now being factored into his piggy budget, topped off with him knowing that the slightest misstep in his begging approach could cost him his only real source of income.... to me, he's just a guy who has zero coping skills, a guy who can see the light at the end of a tunnel he thought would never end, and a guy just smart enough to know he's uber fucked.

The depression angle is him trying to soften his image up a bit, with the hope of reopening a few doors he slammed shut over the years in terms of collaboration, and getting the word out about his stream... the second he used Anthony Bourdain as a lead in to his "special" podcast... I knew he was just latching on to a hot, very sympathetic topic.... this is nothing more than a heel wrestler trying to get over as a baby face.

I would be depressed if I were him

I think he for sure is. During those leaked q and a videos he straight said "I will probably be begging for tips the rest of my life living month to month"

I think he knows that he works a "job" with no health benefits, no dental, 401k etc. He knows that he isnt getting any more growth or new fans. For awhile now its been the same fans he has had for a long time and every few months more detract. He realizes his life depends on a small group of people bailing him out each month. And for sure sees how his youtube gives him less $ each and every month and def knows its only going to get worse.

And he really knows its a fact that he will never get another real job, not just because he hasn't worked one in over a decade (so no references anyway) but because knows the work will just google his name and see a bunch of shit. He is too much a pussy anyway and has "back problems" and would pretty much only be able to do a job at a desk, but with his resume only thing he could ever get would be a collection call job/telemarketer etc

I think from what people are saying that the best way to sum it up is that he's not depressed but he IS miserable.
I've never been depressed and I'm not a doctor so somebody with more knowledge can correct me if I'm wrong on this but isn't depression more about feeling empty and numb? Like you feel nothing, and all you want to do is sleep and do nothing? I'm sure that contrary to popular belief depression is more about feeling nothing and having no drive and nothing excites you rather than feeling sad all the time. So what Phil is talking about isn't depression.

When Phil was talking about his "depression" he was talking about heavy extremes in emotion, sadness, frustration, anger, etc. Which is what leads to these outbursts he has that he blames on "depression" like for example when he mentioned that the time off he used to take when he was "sick" was his depression which kinda goes with typical depression of just wanting to sleep all day and stuff except he says that he'd wake up and remember all the stressful stuff he's got to do and he'd get sad over it and decide not to stream. Then he'd sit and play mobile games and watch TV all day. That to me just sounds like someone stressed out at the situation at hand and wants to just be away from it and hates streaming, not someone who is depressed.

ALSO interesting thing, but whenever he got "sick" which was apparently him actually being depressed he used to whine about it all the time and even used to blame Leanna for constantly getting sick from work. So either he's lying about the depression days off, or he lied about getting sick from Leanna whenever he took days off and threw her under the bus for no reason.

So yeah to me it doesn't seem like depression, it seems like being miserable at the situation he's in, also a high amount of stress which is also a bad thing as it really fucks with you, and finally the one that he can get diagnosed with and probably can't change - Low self esteem and insecurities. This is what causes him to create his own little world that he can control and block everything out, and why he's so smug about his achievements and why he's so sensitive to criticism. I think the stress and misery can be fixed pretty easily by simply changing his living situation and giving up on the Youtube shit, the low self worth would probably need therapy.

This would give some idea:

It doesn't take an astronaut to figure out that DSP ticks off more than a few of the boxes. It might not be "severe" but he could at least go for mild.

In particular the one part people seem to miss when talking about someone like DSP:
"Minimizes or denies issues, projects onto others or blames others"

Is it possible for someone suffering from clinical depression of any level to publicly celebrate their very own birthday for an entire week?

Look at a lot of musicians/comedians/writers or anyone with a public presence. Chances are they put on a nice mask when interacting with people but once the show is over its a very different story. The mask comes off.

Some people can be extremely good at putting on a mask, and when you look at what DSP does for a living which is playing video games, video games was probably his escapism at one stage. Once you tune into a video game (after you've finished your hour long prestream) you don't need to think about your bills or your weight or anything except for 3d titties.

Other great forms of escapism include watching tv for hours on end, spending money carelessly and substance abuse.

That's a big reason why I don't really subscribe to the "oh he's obviously bullshitting" theories, because a lot of people have said a lot of things about "muh depression" which aren't entirely accurate and not only that are basing it off some guys internet persona.

Perhaps something interesting for people to consider is that accountants who are known to be business suit wearing smart people who charge lots of money?
They drink a lot and take a lot of drugs:

I see your point. I'm in no position to confidently diagnose any mental disorder that plagues DSP. The guy has never struck me as anyone lacking self confidence, yet last night he made it out to be his kryptonite. When he makes up his mind to pour his heart out, he goes full tard, and his ability to sink lower in order to benefit his business is god like

It's also an extremely difficult journey for a lot of people to embark on. There are a myriad of stigmas attached to treatment for mental illness, to the point where being in therapy and on medication is often hidden from even friends and family. A general rule of thumb, but not absolute like many things, is if a person is broadcasting their mental illness for thousands of strangers, it's complete bullshit or self-diagnosed.

DSP has what's still colloquially called Obamacare and it covers counselling and psychiatry along with any prescription medication recommended by a psychiatrist.

Obamacare is... not great. The deductibles and copays are atrocious unless you pay an extremely high premium. There are a lot of options, so I obviously can't say what plan Phil has, but it's not uncommon for copays to be high double digits. If you're in legit outpatient treatment and not just getting pills from a GP, you're talking regular doctor and therapy visits and at least annual bloodwork. Shit gets expensive.

Edit for purpose of thread: I think Dave is unhappy, not depressed.

No, he does not have.

He went with depression CAUSE ITS HIS PERFECT EXCUSE:
-No physical symptoms, so he doesnt even have to pretend.
-If you say you he does not have it, you are a horrible person.
-Every mistake he made in the past... cause he was depressed.

PERFECT. Also, the pity factor, good for begging. We know that he has no shame so he does not feel bad for things he done in the past.

Kat on the other hand...

For people keeping up - He got mad at someone today because they were talking about their depression and everyone was paying attention to them instead of him. Then he denied that they're really depressed. Keep that in mind for any of his guilt trips if you doubt his depression.

What you may be hear is absolutely disgusting.

If this is his expression of suffering from depression he needs to have the personality of a movie villain to compensate for it. A third strike for this bull would fit quite nice to his current "pending problem", right?

The only clinical condition this fucker has, is system shock that the "real world" he so delights in referencing ad nauseum, does not respect his rules. It doesn't relegate itself to his sidewalk chalk & kevlar-reinforced office boundaries. Insisting a thing is a thing does not make the thing real. He does not "deserve" simply because he "exists". Narcissists don't handle this concept, so they call on their sharpest talent: blame-shifting.

He has thrown the word around here & there in the past, but something/s very recently just sent him into spinning hyperdrive. Likely a series of perceived grievances that left him without a person or a corporate veil to decimate.

So a few minutes on WebMD later, he emerges with the magic bullet. A word everyone knows, & the ultimate scapegoat for all past, present, & future shitlording.

He's a consequence-dodging coward who thoroughly enjoys being a complete piece of shit, & resents the fact that he ever has to deal with blowback. He's not fucking depressed, but he should be. He'll never reach that threshold of realization. If he really suffered from depression, he would be a hybrid of Spoony & Cosmo with his whinesigns.

All the people I've known & lost to different depths of that condition.. better, smarter, gentle, kinder souls than he'll ever be... Since he's bereft of cursory empathy, I know he had no idea how fundamentally offensive & inane that video sermon was, even to his audience. But what a whole new level he's unlocked.

Nothing is wrong with him except a low-shelf brain, & being perpetually pissed off that he can only get 18 people out of 6 billion to play along with his fantasy world. He's just a basic bitch brat, with a new imaginary friend he can lay blame on when he's about to get a spanking for smearing shit on the walls. That's it.

EDIT: Catching up on thread now... watching meatboi video... fucking wow. There's just no floor to this ocean.

He has no idea what real depression is, i lost both my parents in the same week recently, and my doctor says i'm depressed, prescribed me some anti depressants which are helping, yet this guy has made lots of money and blown it on shit, lives in a big house, doesn't have to get his arse out of bed every day to work a 12 hour shift, yet he's depressed, what a cunt he is.
