Fallout series

Ugh, good point. Fallout 4 had that problem too, clearly the disk read/write stuff was not at all optimized because I play games with far better graphics that load way the fuck faster.

Actually, after examining the game editor, I can explain the issue.

There is an internal limit on how much the game can render in a timely manner before load times turn into shit, and that's even on an SSD.

The problem is that if you check some game cells in the editor, they are loading far more data than the engine can support per cell with comfortable load times, and even if you have a beast of a PC, loading is slow as shit because the engine was often being taxed above its limits, despite a ton of optimization tricks added to cut down VRAM and mesh loading processor usage.

Keep in mind this is FALLOUT 4's engine, which is being rewarmed over and being reused for Fallout 76, which is supposed be FOUR TIMES AS LARGE as 4.

If the engine was occasionally straining at the bit in Fallout 4, just imagine how shitty the load times for cells will be in Fallout 76,.

I've been playing Fallout 2 recently but the computer that had the save file broke. I reached New Reno and got Vault city citizenship, what a shame. Never saw a RPG so immersible, strange enough I kinda cared for NPCs' problems.

I just wonder what will happen when a player gets a infinite load screen / CTD in F76. Will you lose all your items and exp to that point? Will it crash the server? Do you think Bugthesda thought of that ? (Answer: :optimistic:)

I don’t understand Bethesda’s obsession with using their garbage engine at all, to be frank. Despite Todd Howard constantly saying “people call the engine Gamebryo, the idiots!” the engine used in every TES/Fallout game since Oblivion has been based on the same tech. Sure they’ve made incremental improvements since then (oblivion is definitely jankier than I remember) but it’s just wallpaper over the same rotten frame. Why? Why stick to this Gamebryo/Creation engine abomination? They have so many better options out there, even in their own stables (Wolfenstein anyone?)

I realize that a tightly scripted game like Doom or Wolfenstein doesn’t put nearly the same computational strain on hardware as a dynamic open-world game like FO4 does, and thus they can’t often be compared. But look at some of the shit they’ve done with Frostbite, or Witcher 3’s engine, or hell even Rockstar’s tech. I just don’t see why Bethesda so willingly wears this millstone on its neck.

The microtransactions is literally an cosmetic shop with currency that can be earned in game.
its more like fortnites deal really rather than battlefront 2/SW:BF
I'm still questioning how much of the currency can be earned in game. Pete Hines gave an interview about it and he said you'd earn Atoms for things like "The first time you kill a new enemy". Notice that "First time" in there. It's kinda likely that this game is gonna be more or less like Fallout Shelter with it's rewards; plenty at first, jack shit later.

Fuck Bethesda I mean, it was one thing to hold a modding contest where you could take someone else's submission and label it your own without nary a fuck given... But selling out to a TV show that has NOTHING in common with retro-futuristic nuclear wasteland? Go commit Oxygen't.

To tag on into this, a huge part as to why this happens after longer plays in save files for fo4 is because of loot decay, of the lack thereof. The cell custodian simply doesnt delete weapon drops. So the longer you play the more things die. The more things die the more weapons being remembered adds up.

This applies to humanoids killed by players and npc's off screen having their own fights. I found this out the hard way after a 150+ hours file got corrupted simply through the sheer size of loot pollution. Dropped a 9mm pistol on some road between settlements in the middle of nowhere fairly early on in the game. Found it by accident again wandering around after progressing well into the game capturing settlements for raiders in nukaworld. Then got to wondering why an abandoned piece of loot wasn't deleted. After noticing that I noticed wherever I went there were weapons all over the wasteland just layin around. Then the the save file died shortly after.

Someone had to make a mod that forces corpses to keep weapons equipped to circumvent the stupid problem.

A Racist Child Abuser Invaded Fallout 76 Last Night
https://www.psu.com/news/a-racist-child-abuser-invaded-fallout-76-last-night/

”Hey!” a voice boomed from my speakers. ” Hey you exceptional individual! You need to make a white man, you hear me? A. White. Man.”

I sat stunned for a moment, looking confused around the living room. Had Bethesda implemented some ” white man only” policy that I was unaware of? No, of course not. This was simply the voice of some other Fallout player who also happened to be making his character, being piped directly into my home through the magic of Fallout 76.

”No!” the awful voice continued. “That is not a white man! That is a [swear word] [derogatory term for someone of Middle Eastern descent].”

”It’s not!” the voice of a young child insisted. My heart froze. ” It’s not a [derogatory term for someone of Middle Eastern descent]. It is a white man.”

“That is no white man!” the older voice insisted. ” Boy, you might as well make a [swear word] [swear word] [derogatory term for someone with African heritage]. Do you want to be running around this [swear word] game as a [swear word] [derogatory term for someone of Middle Eastern descent]?”

“No, Daddy”, the little voice said quietly. I couldn’t tell if it was a boy or a girl, but the child sounded like they were crying a little. It was absolutely heart breaking.

“Get that hook nose off of there,” the world’s worst father hollered into my home. “He looks like a [swear word] [derogatory term for a Jewish person].”

It quickly became apparent that there was no way to mute other players from the character creation screen. I was going to have to mute my sound system to keep this cretin from screaming more obscene horrors into my home.

“No, you [upsetting term for someone with mental disabilities],” the voice yelled. ” He has [derogatory term for people of Latino descent] eyes!”

What?
Anyone who gives Bethesda money for F76 deserves to be bombarded with nonstop racial abuse every time they boot up the game

I got bored, so I decided to make a Fallout 4 Kiwi Flag parody, using a combination of the Kiwi logo from here and a kiwi bird meme.

Here's a WIP screenshot:

Kiwi Flag.jpg

It replaces the Post War US Flag, probably would look better with a flat flag mesh (there a mod for this on the Nexus), but it replaces the texture on the flagpole and wall decor flag you can find as a static and build in the workshop.

I prefer solid colors, and it's got a black background as both a reference to the night theme and so the flag stands out for those who want to fly their autism flags proudly.

So Fallout 76 is really diverse.

Like.. literally every other character has an African name or is Indian.

Also, it really feels like they're hardly using the setting and just treating the state as a blank canvas. Other than some cool government sites, the place hardly feels uniquely West Virginian.

I dunno, I thought the Flatwoods Monster references were pretty cool, but I didn't play long.
