When others comport themselves according to established social norms they're not subject to violation or interference. So it still comes around to the earning of respect based on a person's behavior and their "presentation of self" in accordance with established social norms.I don't think people should have to 'earn' you avoiding violating or interfering with them. I think it's a pretty fundamental part of the social contract that we all generally agree to avoid violating each other as much as possible.
Human society runs on a trust system that is based on shared truths. Shared truths are mutually agreed upon absolutes. Challenge, undermine or eliminate the shared truth and the trust system breaks down, causing confusion, resentment, indignation, etc. Take it far enough and rebellion and revolution ensues.
Now you can try to introduce and market a new shared truth like "gender identity is a real thing and sexed bodies don't matter" and have government impose and enforce it within the social contract, but good luck getting 100% of human society to willingly go along with it. Especially when it's postmodern academic Goodthink bullshit.
The rebellion has already started.
