Despite swearing never to play Minecraft again let alone modded, I decided to look back into it after my brother got back into the game. Only to discover there's now a modding API called neoforge, the future of Minecraft modding is fucked.

It's been forever fucked ever since there was more than one modding API, which happened with 1.13 and Fabric.

Now we're here.

In particular the modding and server communities, where you have to be careful of what tone you use.

They've expunged Notch from it besides the one mention they cannot legally remove, and they've infested the splashes with political messaging in a game targeted towards kids aged 3 or older. It's been over years ago, and it's been worse than you think.

I have a little custom resource pack I use and my splashes.txt is just these three lines:

nigger
niggers
fuck niggers

And the custom language file has only these two lines:

menu.singleplayer=You are a NIGGER
tile.flower2.poppy.name=Rose

Yes it's that one snapshot Afrikaans crowdsourced translation mishap because it's funny and yes I have the Poppy changed back to the Rose because I'm an oldfag.

There are also other oddities like the round sun and moon from Beta 1.9, old gravel, a pig texture based on those earliest textures Notch showed off, a mimic of the old 3D logo, other legacy textures and also new handmade ones, some of which date back to maybe 2012-2014 like a flint and flint & stone texture that was originally a Painterly Pack texture, which I edited to have vanilla colors, because I was modding and texturing Minecraft ever since I first discovered it.

I still have my first world and many Beta mods on my drive dating all the way back to 2011, like the OG Piston mod that I downloaded before they got oficially added to Minecraft. If not for the small hard drive on the family computer, me having pendrives and me having an obsession on archiving shit I would've lost those forever.

Some Minecraft Youtuber did an experiment for a video where they didn't ever migrate their account.

The big takeaway from it is if you didn't migrate your account for whatever reason, even if you bought Minecraft, you would have to buy it again.

I’m a Bedrock edition peasant and I’ve noticed I don’t see the political splashes anymore. Maybe they’ve quietly made them less likely to show up?

People are so fucking talented in a block game and I'm amazed by it. I love these!

Honestly one of the things I miss the most is the classic "ooph" sound when Steve gets hit by something in the other older versions. I'm extra nostalgic for that.

Huh, I actually like them. The new Sun Chief (now Sun Bird) reminds me of Valoo from Wind Waker for some reason. Although, I also like the original. I would say I'm conflicted but the fact that they changed it because "hurr durr natives herp derp it's wacist" or some retarded nonsense kills it for me. Now, to figure out how to get the old models back via Datapack (since I doubt a simple resource pack will work).

Only thing that bugs me is the roofs of the towers, looks odd to me. Otherwise, nicely done. Wish I could build decently in a game mostly meant for building. Might hunker down and actually learn to not be a sniveling numbnut one day.
