Idk if this is accurate but a poster on r/gaming did the math and found out it would take roughly 864 hours of grinding to unlock everything without paying for boosts which is an astonishing level of greed I don't think Ive ever seen outside of mobile games. I've certainly never seen a AAA game even come close to this before.

So wait, you have to unlock fatalities? You can't just enter the proper button combo and go? If so, that's the cocksuckingest thing I've ever heard.
Yes and no. Here's an example of how this works now...

Each character has two or three fatalities as well as a handful of brutalities (except you have to perform a certain requirement or series of requirements to perform). However, at the start, each character only has one fatality unlocked and one or two brutalities unlocked. This also applies to character costumes, accessories, entrances, exits, etc.

To unlock them- as well as costumes, accessories, character entrances, victory poses, konsumables (match buffs), and the like, you need to play the game. More towers you beat, more Koins and soul shards and hearts and time shards and green clovers and blue moons and... there's a lot of currencies. Anyway, you then go to the Krypt an unlock chests with your koins and shards and red balloons and the like. What's in the chest? No idea, some sperg might be mapping it out, but it is essentially hundreds of blind boxes.

So you might be playing as Kabal but you unlock skins for Kitana and Sonya instead. Tough luck- better luck next time!

It's basically a lot like Injustice 2's Mother Boxes, except even more bullshit.

There are apparently really good chests that are completely universal, but a lot of the mid tier stuff is randomized. But yes, to your main point, the majority of the krypt is hoping and praying you get stuff you want/might use instead of fucking concept art or some lame shit.

Overal the game has torn me as I really like the kombat and the idea of being able to make custom variants, but the average story and the currency bullshit make me kinda sour about the whole thing. Supposedly the devs are gonna give people a buncha free currency and fix the ToT grind, but it still made a bad first impression on me.

For the record, 864 hours is 36 days. You'd literally have to grind for over a month to unlock everything.

Can you still give an AI fighter a pat on the arse and send them into Kombat for you? That was a lot of fun for me with I justice.

I'd honestly rather they just reboot the franchise. Start over from MK3 (UMK3/MKT) and just rearrange or change how events played out then another time travel scenario or concept witin the story. For characters post MK4 and on, just have the fanbase decide who they actually care about in decent numbers and have them added to the roster even if dead/no longer needed in the story or if absent from the rebooted time line.

Guilty Gear for instance has dead characters on the roster. Very simple. Just do that NRS just instead of "dead characters" do it to no longer existing characters/etc.

If they do, do another time travel, I hope they actually cover the events in the original MK lore (including into DA/Deception/AR a little better. Instead of just briefly mentioning the events and changing very few details or just switching characters to who was affected. Heck throw in some of the characters that have ceased to be mentioned since as an easter egg to at least expand upon their mythos, something for the fans.

MK9 was on the right track, but I still feel they could take it even further, they just need better writers and better motivation and to drop this "woke" bullshit.

Again, I kinda wish they just went all the way with a Kang-Raiden war with the kids and surviving humans smack dab in the middle of it all, trying desperately to figure out how to stop evil Raiden from destroying the planet he claims he wants to protect and Kang becoming increasingly willing to add less “controllable” soldiers into his army (i.e. scary mofos like Kintaro and possibly Onaga)

Here's story elements I wanted added/expanded upon or just changed into a what-if: [Note: With some of the direction changes in story some of these are no longer feasible but I'd have loved to see such a twist/etc.]

Time line change: I would have liked to see MK11 be a lead into MKDA, except this time Quan Chi and Shang Tsung would have went after Raiden/Shao Kahn (mistaken his clone for him again)/the remaining forces of light leaving Liu Kang as one of the last rememanents of Earth Realm (Outside the likes of Sub-Zero)... When it goes into the start of Deception I'd like to see Shao Kahn actually form a pact (His own Deadly Alliance) with Liu Kang before Onaga is unleashed.

Shao Kahn realizing Onaga could return has something prepared to attempt to weaken the newly awakened dragon king, but they fail leading Liu to lead Edenia's forces and Kahn to lead Outworld's forces against the newly awakened threat of Onaga.

Shujinko : Due to MKX's ending with Raiden, I'd have loved to see Shujinko pushed by the Elder Gods (absorbtion skill) again hidden from Raiden as a counter weapon against the mad Elder God, the Elder Gods had already lost faith in Raiden during MK4, and questioned him so in this timeline this would be their answer to put that mad dog down. This idea could lead to a re inclusion of Fujin who people actually somewhat like/were interested in. It could also lead to a big bad being another elder god or a leader of the council of elder Gods outside Fujin/Raiden/Shinnok who have no plans of purifying Raiden from his current predicament. Thus leading into further games where some of the Elder Gods are attacked by the forces of light while they use other realms to try to put them down/regain control of Shujinko/Liu and more. (And you make Shujinko not boring in the process in theory)

Lin Kuei/Cyber Ninja initiative/Shinnok's invasion: It'd be interesting if the Lin Kuei in a new time line decided instead of turning their own into cyborgs, they decided to test the transformation on other characters. For instance during MK3 when Kabal was attacked and left for dead maybe have it to where Kabal was one of the first test subjects or even someone who was gravely injured like Jax and even figures potentially like Kano who went missing during that time period in the original MK3 by their summaries. (It would also make use of parts of their designs that always were interesting)

I could see them even being intent on using other ninjas from the cast and taking solid soldiers from other realms as some of the first. (IE: Ermac, Rain, Reptile, even Scorpion.) Finding that obtaining a cyber ninja with the power of a spectre to be insanely useful to their power grasp in Earth realm they slowly invade the Netherrealm searching for more experienced souls (cyber ninja potentials)

Noob Saibot becomes aware of this and informs Shinnok who sends Noob Saibot as a subject, and purposely lets the Lin Kuei in to take control of them and then take over from within. Using Earth realm's own factions against itself in the war. Which pushes a decent amount of Link Kuei related characters against it realizing who is really in control or even having Sektor not be a test subject intially and working with Sub-Zero/others [Smoke/Cyrax/etc.] to take back the clan from Shinnok's control leading into the events of MK4. (Human form)

On that note: Would also be interesting to see Human Smoke coming across cyborg Noob Saibot later on and trying to save his soul/convert him back to a spectre outside the control of Shinnok.

/etc.

Events I'd like see further detailed:

Kabal being attacked by assassination squads during MK3 timeline, Strykers fight to stay alive in a city once populated by millions (If he's a lone survivor facing off against the likes of Motaro I want to see how), Havik's overall actions (and more details of the Chaos realm and their god), Noob-Smoke's actions during Deception, Rain in general, Order Realm (Saido) re-examined along with other lowly known realm with their own big bads plotting against Earth realm/etc. The realms merged within Outworld and factions from them. (Like Nitara)

/etc.

What if:

I'd like to see an actual separation of the many realms Outworld merged with after the events of MK3. Shao Kahn's death weakening the merger of the realms thus leading to exploration of said realms.

If Reptile during MK3 had assassinated Kitana, and Mileena subbing in for her took the Edenian throne.

The Saurians are not near extinct and had been plotting against Shao Kahn during the events of MK3, after his defeat and the loss of the merger of Zaterra and Outworld they create a threat to Earth realm. (Also a reason to bring back Cham/Khameleon)

If Kabal hadn't been attacked by extermination squads pre-MK3 and joined the forces of light.

/etc.

There's other things I've considered and wanted but these are just some off the top of my head I'd love to see explored or something similar. Though I doubt it will ever happen saddly.

Man, I was excited for this game too. Gonna pass.
The game is good, the story, endings, krypt shit not so much. It'll be worth getting when the GOTY edition comes out. Right now I don't find the $79.99 I spent on it so far is worth it as I'm only focused on less than 50% of the content.

yeah, I'm just gonna wait until the price drops way down and the dlc is released before I even think of buying this

Doesn’t shock me when everyone has been shidding and farding all over the MTXs, DRM, and bad grinding since like last Tuesday
I wonder how they'll learn the lesson... was it because it wasn't sexy fun or was it because they gave you the ball and chain from the start?

Maybe they won't learn a lesson at all.

Biggest launch in the history of the series my man.

You should stop taking news from lolcows.

Yeah @Jaimas, gotta concur, I take Usher with a pretty large grain of salt even when he's right about some things these days.

If you read Usher's take on MK11, it is true that it's got some cringey crap, but that's a minor issue compared to the real problem of being loaded down with microtransactions (or at least the potential thereof) and having a poor story, and while it's sales figures are pretty underwhelming for an MK game NOW, they aren't so poor the game sold at a loss at launch, and the core gameplay is actually competent and what people generally paid for.
