Had a discussion with a friend when the direct first dropped.

He was convinced "destructable environments" could not be done on the Switch 1. I pointed out the existence of a game called Red Faction, which was a PS2 game.

Although I'm still not sure who is right, as I remember Red Faction's environments being kind of a gimmick that you couldn't actually do much wiwith.

Well, its just a prettier version of Minecraft terrain with the grid being better hidden,so no.

Red Faction was absolutely impressive for its time, but was far more limited in what could be destroyed (only buildings, and not the terrain itself) and the actual destruction points were far more pre-baked and less freeform. You definitely could do a destructible environment game on switch 1, but could you do this destructible environment game on switch 1? I highly doubt it.

I got one too.

I won mine, even then I would have rather just got money. The games on it were either exclusives I didn't care about except for a select few I can count on one hand or games I could play on PC. WiiU barely even had any exclusives to incentivize people to buy it apparently so even less of a reason, no wonder the emulation scene for that console was dead.

I have some good news on the Switch 2 front: I managed to exchange my defective Switch 2 for a new unit that doesn’t freeze when you put it into the dock while the system’s on or if you try to wake it up while it’s in the dock.

As to what caused it I chatted with the employee and he’s seen it a couple of times since the system dropped, he thinks it’s something to do with the USB-C slot that connects to the dock going bad.

Call me optimist but I heard the number come from vendors and shop stocking.. If that true, we just wait for a few months to see if they refill or not

I've chatted with a few GameStop employees about the Switch 2 stock situation whilst hunting for a replacement system and most stores got their first restock this week with some even selling out the day they get 'em in.

Game looks great. It's very sandbox-y, but there's more depth (no pun intended) than it seemed at first.

I personally liked it and made me feel good about pre-ordering it when I got my Switch 2. I enjoyed Odyssey and this game feels like a big DK-flavored upgrade to it. I may also pick up the amiibo they announced too, I'm flip-flopping on it since I have all of the Smash-centric DK amiibos (with me double-dipping on DK via Skylanders' DK figure), the unlock that the DK & Pauline amiibo provides being billed as an "early" unlock, and the cost.

EDIT: The cost for the DK & Pauline amiibo’s been revealed by Best Buy, it’s $30.

Battle Clash (and a few other titles I neglected to mention) are actually Super Scope games and thus are probably still "safe" from being enjoyed by the masses but Mario Paint's time might have finally come.

If they could let you chip apart buildings until they crumble with actual physics calculations in 2009, they could have absolutely expanded that to include the ground in 2024. They just chose not to.

Maybe my memory is tricking me but didn't buildings stay standing if even a single chunk was still connected to the ground, physics be damned? I bounced off the game a few hours in but seem to remember it working like that.

This could happen sometimes. But most of the time buildings would collapse. You could definitely get some non-logical scenarios though where a clearly unbalanced structure would still stand.

But it mostly worked and was fun. When a building had low enough health it would "degrade" and start falling apart which would usually trigger a total collapse.

I have played a lot of every Red Faction game. Ask me anything.

It's such a shame, because the Particle Reorientation Beam or whatever the fuck it was called was actually a really cool idea and it was fun to basically have the ability to control time. It's just they decided to take that cool idea and put it in Generic Edgy Corridor Shooter so it ended up being a total waste.

I'll be a contrarian and say RFA wasn't actually bad. It was just deeply mediocre and a huge step backwards from RFG.

I remember the original PS2 Red Faction working like that, at least. I never played the sequels.

I also recall the original didn't really make much use of its gimmick as only select things were destructable and usually levels would have one specific bit where you needed to tunnel.
