Saints Row thread

SR1&2 both sold substantially more than 2 mill and SR3 sold more than 5 mill. The reboot ending up around 2 mill is feasable.
2 mill copies is like pre Elden Ring Souls numbers and those games were beloved and had a hugely devoted fan base.
DS1 and PTD sold 2.5+ mill each, meaning DS1 alone sold more than 5 million, and DS3 itself sold more than 10 million, though it took it 4 years, while it only took ER 4 months

This is a report from ABG Sundal Collier about Saints Row.

Given that it needs 2 million copies at full price to break in, even with Epic Games money, and add the shit reviews and the severe drop in sales after the first week, I think it's safe to say that the Saints Row reboot (and by extension, Volition) are completely fucked.
On what planet do they think this is possible?

The only chance this game would have hit 2,000,000 in sales would have been if it launched like ~3 years after SR3 (I know there was a SR4, but I don't think it helped the brand all that much) and even then it would have to be a competent game on it's own (it isn't).

2 million copies?

How?

I never got the impression that the Saints Row IP is worth 2 million copies right now. Where did they get the impression that Saints Row IP has at least two million interested gamers vying for a new game in the IP? Sleeping Dogs is worth 1.5 million copies ten years ago, and I think more right now, more people would like to see a new Sleeping Dogs game rather than Saints Row. Making a wild guess, I don't think a new Sleeping Dogs game can get a million. What makes The Embracer Group think that the new Saints Row game can get two million?

This goes beyond the quality of the game we got right now; how could a reboot score 2 million copies sold?
Word is out, this game sucks in every way possible. Two million is optimistic. It deserves every bit of failure.

I think 2 million was plausible... if the game was actually a Saints Row game that had even minimally competent story writing and the gameplay actually had more variation.

There's a market for crime sandboxes since they're thin on the ground and as @capitalBBustard mentioned, it's prior games were within that margin. The problem was the bait and switch from the streams to that awful trailer, and their responses and delusions to double down on it.

That killed the fan hype. The reviews killed the normie hype too. It's fucked.

Yeah if you take this in a bubble that didn't include AoM.

Guess how much THAT sold?

We should stop talking about sales expectations and discuss how the finale of the game revolves around how the mexican knife man got really jealous of how cool your friends are and decided he wants them for himself. The power of friendship is literally the crux of the plot.
This is what happens when people renounce their wigger ways and start respecting women.

That's the part I love. When faced with universal rejection of their cringetastic supporting character and the opportunity to rescript some of the events in the game due to getting an extra 6 months of delay, they refuse to touch it. Hell, the six months seem to have done fuck all for the game's performance given it still came out buggy.

I wonder how many of those copies were sold at discounted prices for a loss, by the way. I remember it quickly being discounted for $9.99 shortly after release for new copies, then on clearance for around $5 brand new and even used copies were as cheap as $0.99 at GS at one point.

I would imagine many copies of AoM eventually ended up dumpsters after sitting unsold for years. It makes me wonder how many physical copies were printed versus how many sold...

Considering how not great the game looks and plays - why did they not just use the SR3/4 engine and make the game more of a "mod" of the previous games?

There's nothing in the new one that needed a new engine, it just looks like a shitty fangame version of SR3.

I'm pretty sure they used the spruced up remake engine that were built off of the old SR engine.

I saw a review that had a good point about the writing and characters, the game comes off as if it was written for twitter or by twitter.

Given the collision for the vehicles allowing you to smash through with no real impact, I'm pretty sure that it is indeed the AoM engine they reused for the remake engine.

It's actually kind of amazing that this game is so much of an asset flip. I'm actually curious on if they did ANY work at all during that delay, or was it really just done to avoid getting reamed by Elden Ring or something like that. I'm so glad their entitlement will be rewarded with fucked sales. I hope their publishers kick out the management, since they are the anti-midas given the last few efforts from them.

This is so delusional.
Plus, they never apologized for having Hard modes that were way too hard for real gamers to complain, since they actually liked it. Game journalists, on the other hand, could not handle it.

Let's look at some numbers.

Amazon Rank for the PS5 version today:

#857 in Video Games
#23 in PlayStation 5 Games

So nobody actually owns a PS5, right? They just buy them to resell on eBay for increasingly ridiculous markups. PS4 version should put up much better numbers, considering you can get a PS4 free in a box of Cheerios these days. Amazon Rank for the PS4 version today:

#1,396 in Video Games
#60 in PlayStation 4 Games

Ouch. OK, so Xbox dudebros have got to be sick of playing the latest iteration of whatever FPS is the "in" thing right now...right? Xbox Series X Amazon Rank:

#1,714 in Video Games
#9 in Xbox Series X & S Games

Hey, they are still in the Top Ten!

So word is Volition has to sell 2 million copies of this dumpster fire to break even. I repeat: To just break even. If these are the numbers Amazon is seeing after a couple weeks of release, that is not a thing that is going to happen anytime soon. Granted, these are not worldwide numbers and don't include digital, but given the sheer breadth of the Amazon customer base, it is a good set of metrics for kitchen table estimates.

It's probably worth mentioning that Saints Row '22's Xbox One & Series X versions are the same disc, so that ranking double dips between two generations. Plus, every copy sold is potentially another one entering the resale market soon, so I'm sure they won't cross the two million mark until the game's down to $20. They should really look into getting this game on Game Pass, or given away for free on Epic, as those venues might just pull more money than direct sales by now.

I don't know what video I watch but some stated that stores are trying to unload copies of the game since no one is buying like including two copies instead of one.

Looking at the #’s for their respective consoles, it should be a miracle that Xbox’s page has ST in the top 10, let alone PlayStation having it anywhere in the 20’s to begin with. It would look desperate if Volition is calling up Microsoft and Sony to fix up the numbers to make people think this is a fun game, even while the reviews look mediocre at best.
