Sony hate thread

How can we have a thread about Sony being cringe without mentioning "All I want for Xmas is a PSP"?
For anyone who doesn't remember, they tried to pretend this was made by someone who really wanted a PSP, even though:
1. It's clearly been filmed in a studio
2. The guy's singing about how he wants his parents to buy him a PSP for Christmas when he's clearly fucking 30

It was 2006 so the idea of "viral marketing" was still a new concept, and this was one of the examples where it went terribly wrong and everyone saw through it. Ashens made a video making fun of it, too.

Cyberflop on console is unplayable out of box, you will need an internet connection for no less than 87GB+ of """"""updates"""""" which was one of the reasons sony pulled it off their store and began handing out refunds.
ACKSHUALLY that was actually an actual collaboration between CD Project Red and Sony. They released the game on PlayStation and PC at the same time but then the PlayStation version sucked shit right out the gate ON PURPOSE in order to prove that PC games are bad, and then Sony stepped in and offered refunds and nixed it from the store as a gesture to prove that they are the watchful daddies of video games and only ensure that PlayStation Gamerz only get access to the best video games in the entire video games industry like The Last of Us Part 2 and Life of Black Tiger, and it was all designed to sell everyone a PlayStation 5

Funny thing about this: the pkgi team for the PS3 has preserved a lot of dlc for sony games themselves, whereas is more than content to remove not just the dlc, but the updates themselves. Gran Turismo 5? It had a huge update called Spec 2.0 that rebalanced the game. That is all gone from the official server to buy, but the pkgi team has preserved that update and you can now download it again.

They're doing it for free as well.
ACKSHUALLY Sony pulled all the updates for Grand Autismo 5 in order to push players into buying Grand Autismo 7 on the PlayStation 5, and in turn sell them a PlayStation 5, and they did this because Sony cares about video game preservation and the PlayStation 5 is the best console for video game preservation, where you don't have to worry about updates and shit because PlayStation 5 plays discs except for the models that don't, which were released anyway in order to let the public demo the PlayStation 5 before buying another PlayStation 5 but this time with a CD drive

I'll do that when I actually find one. Maybe when the PS6 comes out I'll finally see one.
The PlayStation 6 will support 8k120fps & 4k240fps games, but nobody currently has an 8K screen or a monitor that supports 240fps, so by design the people will look at it and decide to buy a PlayStation 5 instead, and that is the entire reason the PlayStation 6 will exist.

Don't worry, the games will never reach 240fps to begin with, we'll be lucky if they reach 60fps because you don't need 60fps for cinematic first party exclusive PlayStation games. Frankly I hope every Naughty Dog game going forward only supports 24fps so we can better animate the excellent cinematography at a proper fps because animating at 60 fps is really hard while enhancing golf club textures.

Also I think a bunch of people got confused when I said documentation. I mean the actual scanned documents and paperwork that comes with the game. There is a load of stuff like that that piracy sites just don't bother to cover and it's well....the actual game covers for one thing. There's a bunch of low resolution scans for stuff but it's not something that would be archive worthy or there's debris visible on the scanner bed or there is visible glare since some paper is reflective. Even some of the more complete sites are missing things like the spines to cases, interior tray artwork, or they didn't scan every page in the instruction booklet(this is less of a thing for newer games but the older games this mattered a whole lot more). Nothing is really set up in such a way where you have the whole package and it's contents archived. Yes you have the file, but there's a whole lot more to archiving games than just the game itself.
And now he's starting to white knight Bex Gerber and her delusional fantasies of people needing to be an academic to update a vidya wiki or use a scanner.

Is funny because Sony ponies waste more time searching for a monitor that give them what their masters promised them in paper... only to end buying Gaming PC monitors :story:

Edit: if you dont believe me search for gaming monitors in amazon 8 out of 10 there is going to be a "does it work with the playstation 5" question

Some of this shit is generally hard to find. King's Field 4 only has a few sub-par scans of it's paperwork and it's also missing regions.

This is what makes up most of the cost of retro game collecting is the paper. I've had to piece together some stuff to make a full booklet and recreating pages. And it's like piracy really doesn't account for things like this. I've found some stuff at internet archive where they will scan things properly but for places where games are pirated this is a rarity. That's why I really can't view it as a proper means of preservation because they are not accounting for the whole package.

I mean how many people know that there' switch instruction booklets and they've used multiple size formats? Probably not a lot. Some of these serve as quasi art books and are not a full instruction booklet. Also some cases are double sided and the interior art is often left out.

Not to mention, there's no way to tell on the packaging whether or not the game actually has something fully playable on-disc. Even internet research isn't reliable due to everyone online still having all their consoles connected to the internet, so the word doesn't get out on what needs updates and what doesn't.

The most major platform to cater to game preservation is one @Marissa Moira never, ever mentions: GOG. Buy a physical copy of Cyberpunk 2077 PS4 and you'll wind up with the 1.0 version of the game, notoriously for being buggy as hell and running like the devil's anus, but buy it on GOG today and you can get yourself a nice downloadable offline installer, all patched up, for you to make your own backup of. In fact, here are some high quality Blu-rays for you to burn your backed up games onto: https://www.amazon.com/Verbatim-DataLifePlus-White-Inkjet-Printable/dp/B004477BQQ
I literally mentioned GOG in a previous post and not only that linked their article about how they go about preserving games.

Gog scans in all the contents of the box, that's why I like them.

I say this with the nicest of intentions, this is peak coomer product. By now, we know where we're at if you seek anime tiddies (onwards with the switch) everyone else has moved on or just lost interest. That bland-ass sequel to atelier Ryza was possibly the last straw, thank god at least Sakuna of Rice came out on both PS4 and switch.

u wot

besides, it's not coomerbait anyway, it's harem shit (dunno why it's still so popular, manga concluded two years ago and even the harem part, while enjoyable, wasn't that extraordinary imo).
EDIT: forgot a new movie released last month.

Shadow of the Colossus chugged on PS2, pushing the system, a remake was justified. TLOU1 didn't need a remake. Well, except to make it not poorly designed with a bad story and boring characters, but they're not doing that. It would take a reimagining to fix the game.
it "needed" a remake to sell the new hardware gen and since everybody could actually buy the console there was enough demand from suckers to get a version they don't have to hook up their ps3 for and that runs better too. convenience is king, why do you think rockstar double-dipped with GTA V too? (yes, it originally released on ps3. feel old yet?).

"P-Porting this new game to PC that should ostensibly be exclusive to PS5 is actually attracting people to PS5!"

Perfectly seasoned cope.
it's hardly new and it's only the first part. the game is almost 10 years old at this point, it's no loss on sony's part while still potentially getting people to buy a playstation to buy the sequel, thus getting people onto the platform, which has a good chance they gonna buy games and services there. we've been over this already, same deal as horizon, it's really not that difficult.

it's right next to "those dumb razor and printer companies are selling me their shit for cheap, lol suckers".

One understood the art style and made tweaks, while the other destroyed the art style and lighting for realism. It also helps that the team behind the SOTC remake were fans and interacted with the fanbase, even putting in a nice acknowledgment of the 17th Colossus rumor that the community spent a decade looking for.
that's a trick question, right? fucking up the lighting and atmosphere in the remaster is one of the biggest point of contention, there's a reason they've been degraded to "your favorite game is getting a remaster by bluepoint" meme status. I think the only thing that drew even more ire was the ds1 remaster.

One of the biggest gripes I had with Sony in my last decade was not making their own fighting games accessible or entertaining enough to reach larger masses:

Even if it was a Super Smash Bros. ripoff, you could have at least spent more time making this game work with properties that only Sony fans know of (save for leaving out Crash Bandicoot, Lara Croft and Spyro The Dragon).

We could be living in a future where that game and Little Big Planet would have been some of the biggest releases that the PS3 could have ever made, and you’re looking at one of the biggest fans of Sackboy on this site.

The one thing about the PS3 version of SOTC is that they had the MC behave worse than the original, wanderer cannot fucking grab and hold on to save his life. You grab on to them only to flail around and be unable to make steady progress because of how frequently you get tossed. Bluepoint fixed this and fixed the controls, the PS4 version behaves mechanically better than the PS3 one. It controls better than the original did as well. The PS3 version was also coupled with the fact that it was the European version that had much harder times to beat than the NTSC version. So between a unresponsive wanderer and euro time trials it's much more frustrating to complete compared to both the PS2 and PS4 version.

Somehow I'm pretty sure people on PC aren't desperate to play Last of Us Part II.

Nigga, you wish.
There was already TLOU nendos made
joelinone.jpg

Now they're making more to go along with the Aloy and Astrobot ones, then there's TLOU Lego Sets, Funko Pops, and Officially Licensed Roleplay gear. Them purchasing it is already an inevitability, it's already happened before with Horizon and GOW.

Expect to see many children(and pets) to be named Ellie in the future. Bella won't know what hit her.

The Last of us part 1 being announced for PS5 and PC proves that Sony is not trying to convert PC gamers into console gamers.
