Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

This is why even episodic shows for kids should have some kind of a bible, just like you'd have character models, and some kind of chief editor who rubs the writers' noses in it when they fuck it up. Even kids notice when you fuck that up.
I mean, they used to do that back in the day. Heck, even stuff like transformers had bibles that would describe characters in a few short sentences. The leader, the young kid, the scientist etc.

It was one of the main problems with shows like Steven Universe where shit was constantly of model.

While I think @Romeo Montovani is correct, I think a bigger reason why modern animation catches a women audience so strongly is just the shipping garbage it promotes. Shows like the Owl House are solely focused on shipping, so women naturally migrate to it. Lumlinity, Starco, Stevonnie, Reagan x Brett, Morty x Planetina, you could go on. These ships are the foundation of animation at this point.

Those who cannot conceive Friendship as a substantive love but only as a disguise or elaboration of Eros betray the fact that they have never had a Friend. - C.S. Lewis

This quote needs to be burned into the brain of every female audience member and animator of Western animation.

Shipping repels me almost as much as shutins getting off to cartoons about furries or kids, or furry kids. It's the same kind of sweaty coombrained autism, just a slightly more valid outlet, brought down to the same level by retardation.

Those who cannot conceive Friendship as a substantive love but only as a disguise or elaboration of Eros betray... holy shit what are you doing you freak?! - C.S. Lewis' ghost.

The only women who actively ship lesbians (and underaged ones at that) are lesbians/wanna-be-lesbos, and SJWs raised on Tumblr and therefore "qweer" (a.k.a. fetishists). Least with yaoi, that was such a common stereotype for women in general to be drawn to it that it was just inevitable, but F/F romance was less about the hot sweaty sex and more about a sisterly bond the two would develop but without a man to come between them. If there was anything sexual between them, it was subdued to hell and was more about the emotional support. Maybe eventually one or both of them would bang a guy if just to pop out a kid, but their hearts would still belong with each other.

That's still true to this day with shippers, but now with the addition of porn, so pretty much every lesbian couple is banging no matter how unrealistic it is. This also includes the underaged characters, and these militant shippers hide behind the pro/anti-shipper and "progressive" shit to try and distract from the fact they just want to see girls fingerbang each other because all boys are rapists/rapists-in-training. I bet everyone working on these shows is just talking to each other about how much they want to see some girl-on-girl action while animating mundane scenes and losing the plot in the process. There has to be a shit-ton of porn floating around in these studios that would make the remaining veteran animators (who totally drew porn during their off-time but kept it on the downlow) think much less of them than they already are.

"At least put on the façade you're in it for the art and not the porn," veterans are probably thinking. "Nah, we just want all the porn," the younger generation smugly responds on their phones.

And that's why modern cartoons suck ass. The end goal is canonical porn, and you're a bigot if you write fan fiction that makes one or both of them straight.

@Kari Kamiya, I may as well ask you. I remember someone describing shipping as the female equivalent to Vs matchups for boys. Instead of who would kick who’s ass, it is a game of which pairing goes the best.

If so, I can see how straights get caught up into lesbian ships, as it is more about the autistic need to feel validated over fictional characters for having a “perfect pairing” than anything else. It is just like how many need to feel validated saying Goku can beat Superman.

I wouldn't be surprised that the animators behind many modern Western cartoons are active users in rule34.xxx and rule34.paheal.net.

The only ships I am okay are those that are canonized in series whose shipping is not the primary goal.

For example, the main protagonist Romeo (the profile pic I have) in the boomer-tier anime Romeo's Blue Skies first established a friendship with Angeletta, the main female deuteragonist of the first part of the series. Romeo and Angeletta's kindness, acts of service to each other, and their desire to make each other happy culminated into a romance, which makes it canon. Unfortunately, the two split up since Angeletta also has what is suspected to be tuberculosis and moved to Paris for treatment, and Romeo ends up marrying the main female deuteragonist of the second part of the series Bianca.

I do feel more of a connection between Romeo and Angeletta compared to Romeo and Bianca because a lot of the first part is dedicated to Romeo and Angeletta's relationship while the second part does not deal a lot with Romeo and Bianca's relationship, with Bianca also somewhat of a tsundere since she was jealous of the friendship between Romeo and Bianca's brother Alfredo, the male deuteragonist of the series. The second part was also rushed because Romeo's Blue Skies was part of a anthology series called World Masterpiece Theater and was getting canned in 1995 so there was not a lot time given to develop a friendship and then love between Romeo and Bianca compared to Romeo and Angeletta.

Despite all the romantic stuff in Romeo's Blue Skies, the series never focused on this topic but rather Romeo's friendships, self-growth, and his selflessness. Romeo sold himself to become a chimney sweeper in a city far away to support his family. He then established a friendship with Alfredo who was a noble whose uncle and aunt killed his parents and took their wealth and was also becoming a chimney sweeper. The series is focused on their acts of service to each other and how they extended it, to Angeletta, and to other chimney sweepers who eventually became the Black Brothers gang to support and protect each other.

In a sense, yeah, it's similar to that. But militant shippers get too personally and emotionally involved in it that it almost feels like they're trying to live vicariously through a fictional character, regardless of sexuality. In recent years, lesbian pairings have become the forefront of being "progressive" and "diverse" (because these people are so surface-level) that they're projecting so brightly and loudly to drown out the fact they want to masturbate to lesbians (and gays, fujoshis have evolved into something... crazier this past decade). It's easier to get on guys like Andrew Dobson for it because hurr-durr guys are lecherous pigs or what-have-you, but women go on about how they want to be sex positive so much, but they don't want to openly admit to wanting to jill to perfect lesbian relationships or whatever.

Women just want to have their cake and eat it too. That's all it boils down to. Also, a lot of these writers and animators clearly still hold resentment towards their peers because they got into Internet slapfights over shipping when they were younger and never got over it. It's the "don't like, don't read" mentality taken to eleven, because the slightest hint of criticism is just someone "flaming" them and they still lash out over it because they're being personally attacked right now, but in a professional (lulz) setting.

I highly recommend browsing the shipping thread in Community Watch if you want to know more about how militant shippers think, and see how much it permeates the animation industry like a plague right now.

Nah, the Confederates did it first.

Back to some rumors of a Kim Possible reboot, I wonder if it could be related to a revival of Totally Spies? Both series arrived almost at the same time back then.
It would probably be another one of those Charlie's Angels films, and judging from how Hollywood does these days, will be a trashfire like the 2019 version.

More reboots? jeez man this twisted wish has been made so many times the whole damn monkey is curled.

I know you asked Kari but I'll throw my two cents down the well too.

In my experience, shipping is more akin to trading card games or action figure roleplaying for boys. "Look at my new [ship]! It can beat your [ship] and is so much more fun and cool!" I used to see fanfic makers clash with canon loyalists over certain pairings based on "logic and healthiness" and other such fag shit (MLP:FiM and Harry Potter to be specific).

The dick-measuring contest is better suited for the lesbos/genderspecials who make art or text posts gushing about their partner for all to see complete with freak flags. And that's what the autistic fascinations can be reduced to: ATTENTION AND LONELINESS.

I wouldn't be surprised that the animators behind many modern Western cartoons are active users in rule34.xxx and rule34.paheal.net.
Then don't be because they do. In fact based on how clean it is, I'll bet that one picture posted upthread of all those female protags piled up was made by a staffer for one of those shows.

If they’re going down that route, then perhaps I challenge this statement with a Booker T. Washington reference:

If anything, this is why you never get true and well-made “black” cartoons with black people in them. They’re spending too much time treating them as if they are special, when in reality, they’re about as human and average like the rest of us just wanting to not be treated with a victim complex or feel helpless.
