It is with great pain that I bring the news that some people are thirsty for the Grub Hub mom.

Can this trend of twerking in children’s cartoons fucking die already? I did not need to see this blob lady throwing it back in her daughter’s face!

That has to be the least hot mom I've ever seen. If you're going to be a gooner at least have standards.

The whole point of gooners is that by definition, they don't. Or actually, they take low standards to such an extreme that they can only get off to things that would make even semi-ordinary coomers vomit.

Not a fan of this

The animation looks awful

The fact it has other superheros prominent is a problem to me

And the whole thing where Norman and Peter's relationship is just like the MCU Peter and Tony relationship (except when Norman inevitably becomes evil) is just annoying.

At this point, Disney should just look at the two good Spider-Man shows they have and just give it a continuation instead of forcing Spider-Man in shows that interact with the wider Marvel universe.
Found one of my old posts and man almost everything aged well. Really the only thing I was wrong about is Norman being bad since I think the guy who voiced him did a fantastic job, and may be the one black guy who can pull off a Green Goblin, but the relationship was still ass since Norman pretty much stopped Doctor Octopus by calling the feds on him and Peter didn't make his own suit once.

Oh sweet baby Jesus we are not doing this.

If you have to say “Oh, was [shitty media] REALLY that bad?”, the answer is yes more often than not.
Yes it was that bad. Ironically this show could've maybe had a better chance if it was not being bankrolled by Crunchyroll who prior to having originals kept boasting about how supporting Cruchyroll is the only way to save the anime industry, and it ended up making High Guardian Spice which should be on like another streaming platform.

Playing a story straight has become a novelty. The problem is writers dont understand making the fact that an unusual situation is played straight can be entertaining or more hilarious than an overdone quipfest.
A bit late with the reply, but i think that might be one of the key factors when it comes to anime's success in the west.
No matter how silly the trope (ex: Jojo's Bizarre Adventure), even in more comical series there's a surprising amount of them that are willing to play their story very straight and it can work surprisingly well in some cases.

Though the modern series isn't very good (and the older series was just kinda funny, else very mid), Lupin the Third is a good example of that.
There's an episode that i genuinely really liked that came out of nowhere in Part IV (episode 20 i think) that has our titular main character steal a random old couple's car and drive around in it taking a lot of risks in the hope of having them pay a ransom to get it back.
Despite being like 80% comedy, the episode actually plays the old couple's situation very straight... the wife's fucking bedridden & dying of cancer, and the old guy just really wants to get rid of the car because it reminds him too much of their past, but he also just can't let go 'cause that's the one memento he still has of their happy days. You can even see all the furniture in the house covered in sheets and stuff cause he just can't bear to look at it again.
And despite starting off very comical, the episode actually plays its end straight, with the main character eventually finding a picture in the glovebox and deciding to go there when he realises the car's a rust bucket anyway that doesn't have a long time to go and the old dude won't pay for it.
While they're chatting on the phone and the driver's on his way to the spot, the old guy starts recognising where the car's going ; he's gone through that road so many times that the sound the car makes at each point is basically inscribed in his brain. And so as the guy continues, he's with his wife like "oh he's on that bridge !" and sharing anecdotes to her about the good times they had back then.
As expected, you get anime timing and the car eventually dies right as it reaches the spot. The old guy and his wife share one last smile, and she dies too.

It's a little silly, a little simple, clumsy at times even. But damn you know what ? It actually kinda works.
I' actually felt something while watching the episode that wasn't exclusively mild boredom. I've yet to see a western animation show actually manage to reach me. And it comes from a animated show that was rebooted 569859 times and is based on an ultra-raunchy 60's manga.

I would recommend Venture Bros as one of the only great Western series which plays things straight, and it is incredible. While the first season largely sticks to straight up Johnny Quest pastiche, it eventually figures out the idea of how an actual superhero/supervillain society works in the modern day is a fascinating subject to dive into, and does so to very fun effect.

I occasionally obsess over how boringly bad this show was whenever the usual "Oh it's not THAT bad" crowd starts speaking up, and while it can have some charming aspects, it's way, way worse than "that bad" by virtue of being boring.

This screenshot honestly says it in a way it would take me walls of text to articulate, it could be the most sanitized hugbox-esque troon product or the most le heccin based show ever and it still wouldn't be much better in either world because it's just such a bore, written like somebody just googled "top ten anime tropes/archetypes/stories" and drew their OCs reenacting whatever middle school rough draft they cobbled together.

That show never gets the love wide recognition it deserves; I don't even see other shows make sly references to it, and animators love doing that shit.

Common Side Effects is over halfway through its first season as of writing this, and you should go see it if you haven't already. The writing is tight, not a single wasted second. The body language and dialogue are very natural, which sells the realistic conflicts really well. Here's the first episode if you're not convinced.

Wow I was actually impressed by this. I like the writing, the dialogue is well done and the premise is actually pretty interesting too.
But for fuck sake why do they make the fuckin' characters look so ugly dude?

I love it too but it's a blessing in disguise that it didn't get too popular.
Nowadays I'd rather not have good media get introduced to the cancer that is mainstream fandom culture and see utter garbage takes, fan works and discourse flowing from them. :stress:
people barely gatekeep shit and the most obnoxious faggots always get the attention of the creators.

Just finished watching this. A very solid episode and a great premise. Though, wish they were more subtle on the "capitalism/corporation BAD" mantra. It can work, though. It just don't need to be in your face. It's true of what the dude says about pharma's but I feel it's much more impactful when we're shown what they're doing and not being told of it. Being told of it feels like being lectured, and I don't want to be lectured about something people have already yammered about a thousand times.

Other than that, I loved it. Feels great to watch an adult animation feel adult for once. I especially loved the dialogue. Again, just wish they did a bit more show than tell with the whole message they're going for.

The whole "capitalism bad" message also fails when you are aware that the animators/screen writers etc. are making this show to turn in a profit for the corporation they are working for while going to the local corporate runt Starbucks/fast food for lunch.
