Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

Don't forget the abundance of fanfics and fanart in the late 90s and 00s especially deviantart they helped fuel the shipping trends. Even IMDB forums in the 00s boards of the Jonas Bros, Evangelion and Harry Potter films were littered with the stuff. I remember back around 2006 there was a thread in IMDB titled in caps 'WHO THE F--- WRITES FANFICTION OF THE JONAS BROTHERS?' That was funny too bad it wasn't archived. Possibly for the better.
Yeah, sounds about right.

I remember hearing that the Avatar community was pretty notorious for shipping back in the late 00s. So much that creators would mess with the shippers who wanted Zuko and Katara at Comic Con. Always hinting it then going straight to Katara x Aang as an F you.

Most of my experience with shippers comes from AT, where everyone fought over who Finn will bone by he end. It was a massive part of he show, so it made sense, hell even I wanted him to end up with either PB or FP. The surprising part of AT shipping was that Marcy x PB was sort of a later fandom that would become show canon. Most were pretty focused on Finn in the early seasons.

Probably to make way for their adaptation of Phoebe & Her Unicorn, which does have genderspecial shit in it:

Isn’t that the same artist who made “Raine Dog”? You know, that comic where a dog has sex with a little boy?

Yeeeeap. See below for more thoughts:
It'd be great if Labelle got put away, but honestly, he's small potatoes. You wanna know which troon comic creator I REALLY wanna see get outed as a pedo?

Dana. Motherfucking. Simpson. I mean, really think about it. A constant proximity to children? Check. Has he made children's material about the wonders of transitioning? Yeeeeeep. And need we forget Raine Dog? ]Not to mention, unlike most troons. he's actually created stuff that normies like and respect (Phoebe & Her Unicorn, Ozy & Millie). Seeing him getting outed as a pedo would probably be the wake-up call that they desperately need. So, of course, it'll never happen. But hey, a nigga can dream, right?

Has he made children's material about the wonders of transitioning?

Oh how I long for the days of the Nuremburg book burnings, if they ever happened again the "salacious material" we'd toss on the fire would actually be worth burning.

anyways back to animation; It's been asked before but is pheboe and her unicorn gonna be based on the early run back when the writer while still a troon was still somewhat san enough to keep the material as generic slice of life for the normies or the full retard that is the infamous non binary unicorns panel?

Also i cant be too sure but i think the production of PAHU is why Nick canned it's pony, can't have too shows about equines going on at once what are we hasbro?

Already provided my answer to this earlier in the thread:
Honestly, I think it'll go like this, much like the original comic itself (and The Owl House, now that I think about it): it'll start with being bland, if harmless. Then, once the 2 million+ little girls who bought the books get nice and comfortable with their perfectly serviceable adaptation of their favorite comic strip, it will, as you so elegantly put it, "go full retard" and introduce the non-binary unicorn, the main male character (Max)'s lesbian moms (can't have any positive, traditionally masculine role models, noooooo, they've gotta be tech-CONSOOMING soyboy neckbeards like Phoebe's dad and Max) and full-on author tracts about the "problematic" media of the past:
REEEE STUFF I WATCHED AS A KID BAD BECAUSE IT WAS NOT MADE IN CURRENT YEAR.JPG

Not sure if those were posted yet.
Really, what the fuck did they think pairing her with fucking Zipper?
On the other hand, the only good thing to come from this is all kinds of different people have come together to collectively shit on Disney for ruining their childhood. Between this, and all their other assinine decisions in the previous years, I wonder how much hate Disney can take before they crumble into ash.

because it's referring to disney as opposed to browsing porn when you type it.

Frankly I'm just glad it means Owl house is almost over, the sooner it's relegated to the animation graveyard the better...not that people wont stop talking about it for a while.
Don’t worry, by the next big lesbian show, people will end up forgetting about Owl House, just like all the other “important” lesbian shows from the past few years.
Just once, I want to see them stop flicking the bean to lesbians and just do two guys already. No one does that shit and it would be a lot more groundbreaking than the typical boring toxic wlw shit that Tumblr salivates over.
Already done. Twice:

Granted, that's still less than the lesbo shows that get greenlit, so your point still stands. Just saying it's been done. Also, mighty funny how both times, it's a mixed-race couple. Almost like they know that the black community is extremely homophobic and would react poorly to a gay black couple. Hmmmmmm....

And their lesbians have more believable chemistry, to boot:
Funny how we never see a MSM article sing their praises.
You would think if people would actually point out this weird double standard if they actually cared so much about representation. But it seems like token gay dads of secondary characters is the best gay men will get for now.

Also I noticed Bow’s dads are the only male gay couple that are both black. I wonder if interracial is just to check off more boxes or if they’re really afraid of pissing off the black community.
Yeah, sounds about right.

Reading past responses to my post, a horrifying conclusion dawned upon me; the same people getting into ship fights and writing shitty fanfiction are now the same ones creating and covering cartoons of today. And they never unlearned their bad fandom habits…

People will probably forget about the hate and then latch on to the next thing to consoom and obsess over. Just like the last times. Just like with every other corporation that exploits childhood nostalgia.

Obsessive shipping has been a thing long before the Internet or mainstream gay shit. See Gadget from Rescue Rangers for the most recent relevant example. I haven't seen any show having any actually any inappropriate content in itself. But then you go on Twitter and you have adult fans, and often the shows writers, arguing and obsessing over shipping kid characters it comes off as creepy regardless of the orientation of characters.

The hypocrisy of it bothers me too. They'll screech about how all bronies are pedos for liking a show about magical ponies meant for girls, but then will obsess over underage human characters to a far worse extent than I've seen from most bronies.
Indeed, slash fiction got it's start decades ago - of course a lot of the time back then it and fanfiction in general in the 1970s and 80s was published in print fanzines you had to be really plugged into "fandom" to be aware of. The first documented "slash" fanfic was something titled ‘A Fragment Out Of Time’ which didn't feature the character's names but it was illustrated in this fanzine with pictures of Kirk and Spock (of course) so...well, it's been around for awhile.

While I'm not the biggest fan of foster's home for imaginary friends i will give them this. When it came to cheese and to a lesser extent goo, they really captured what a burden it is to take care of retards.

Can you believe the finale of this show was the whole house being stuck with this unadoptable slow in the mind forever?

I can only picture a lot of the Imaginary Friends killing themselves in gruesome ways, just so they don't have to deal with him.

Speaking of which, can Imaginary Friends die, or are they just completely immortal?

The name comes from the slash character (“/“ ) used to separate the names, too. It was customary to have the dominant partner’s name 1st.

For example, Kirk/ Spock, is code for Kirk is the dominant partner in the relationship.

They had name rules where they’d put the dominant partners name first, too, when creating a portmanteau of the two characters names.

Weird shit. People used a lot of strange codes for various subcultures, same as now. Many of these things get lost to time.
