Phil has always struck me as a guy who has legitimate mental health problems. How he behaves and he views other people are indicators of it. Just examine videos like
the medical vlog or when John Rambo and Howard
talked about him. Everything always has to revolve around him, no one else can be the top priority besides Phil. He's always the most important person, and the mastermind behind everything. When he tells stories of interactions with people, everyone is either an idiot who has no idea what they are doing or is out to get Phil. No one is ever nice to Phil in his stories, people are always patronizing, belittling, condescending or talking down to him. Everyone is just jealous of his success or are out to ruin him in some way.
As for depression, that's a tough one. I don't know if Phil's massive ego and "blame everyone but me" attitude could even allow for him to be depressed. That said, it's truly hard to look at his life and say he's not depressed.
His "job" is in ruins, and his finances are terrible to the point that he's already arrived at the stage where he's going to have legal problems arise from them. He has no friends, no true companion (Kat is likely just another gold digger) and no one that truly cares about him. He spends most of his time inside his house, playing video games he isn't good at and that only frustrate him to no end. He never exercises, and he always eats shit that is terrible for both your physical and mental health. He has no hobbies, no activities that bring him joy and he gets angry over the stupidest of things.
And on top of it all, he has to spend everyday of his life as a internet lolcow. He knows that there is a mob of people online that just hate him and want to make a laughingstock out of him. And he knows they are going to succeed at it.
No matter what he does, no matter how much he tries to stop them and no matter how much "sympathy" he receives when something legitimately bad happens to him, his haters are going to continue to use his content as fodder to make videos that expose him for the rage-filled idiot, asshole and just unlikable person he is.
Would anyone be able to avoid depression if they had to live Phil's life?
