Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

Sadly, yes they can. It's what makes HOAs obnoxious. For something like this, they can levy fines and place a lien against the property if they're not paid. In extreme cases they can sue to force the owner to sell the property, but "a dying lawn with weeds" doesn't come close to that scale.

That's if you ignore them, though. Realistically speaking, if you take any action at all towards resolving an HOA's complaint (even if it's just writing a letter back saying "yeah, we'll work on it," it defangs them in court for all intents and purposes, since you can show you're working in good faith to cure the issue and not just ignoring them.

This is why the "go fuck yourself" letter needs to be accompanied by a bit of action to back it up. In our case, after chastising them for caring about property values above all else (and not even bothering to acknowledge kung flu or ask after our well-being), I included a brief mention of having contracted a landscaping company to replace the dying lawn and gave contact information for them to verify. Because we're doing exactly what they demanded of us, all they can do is stew in their own juices if they don't like the tone of my response. If they try to litigate, we can just show the judge the contract and receipt and say "wtf dude, we literally acted within days of receiving the letter, what the hell do they want?"

They pulled this shit a few years ago too (this fucking lawn has been the bane of my existence ever since we bought this house) and all we did was plant some grass plugs in the dead spots, and that was enough to satisfy them. This time enough of it's dead that it would take a lot of plugs to try to restore it, and it'll probably just die again anyway.

So you have to deal with five levels of government? HOA, Municipal, County, State, Federal? I think I'd just eat a gun. It's bad enough dealing with three where I live.

I had to check.

Ontario has the most density which I didn't know. But quebec is number 2.

And this does actually explain a lot. Look at spain. 2nd biggest city? Barcelona. Look at US. 2nd biggest city? In california. Every time. 2nd biggest city is ALWAYS the biggest shithole. Why is that a thing I don't know but it is universal.
Huh. I live on the other side of the countty from that whole mess, and I'm happy about it. My neighbours and friends are pretty much done with this lockdown. A lot of vocal resentment from people who were screaming that groceries and med trips once a week would wipe out the population.
3 days short of 8 weeks off for me now, and it's starting to get to me. My employer gave me OFA level 3 (work site medic) last year, which probably helped them realize how serious I personally took WuFlu in March.

Not getting sick because I work with teenagers who have been partying "on the downlow," as I had it explained to me.

Apparently, some of the younger partying age folks around here have never stopped. They just ended up leaving cell phones at home and anyone who ratted out got depersonafied, apparently. So if theres unexplained, random infections with no obvious source, go look at your countries 16-30 year olds.

And that's why I'll never get this monofamily home bullshit. Everything's too damned far, you need to take care of a fucking garden, you have *stairs* on your own home. Yeah because if there's one thing I think about while going to shit is "you know what'd be great? If I had to go up a flight of stairs to get to the crapper!" AND you STILL have to deal with asshole neighbors! What's the advantage here?! At least my fucking HOA can't critizice me for what I do inside my property so long as it doesn't break night noise legislation or is a fucking meth lab.

It's basically the same as a plastic screen but without covering the eyes. It's so non-porous that all the air comes from the underside. And if you try to close the underside then you win an award for inventing a self-asphixiation device. A darwin award.

I have a solution to the migrant camps. All you need is to give a call to our german kiwis and ask them to check their gandpa's notes for any "oven." Et voila no need for Greece to worry.

I would give you the spanish version but sadly our granpas over here chose the far less elegant "just take advantage of the roads being built to mass bury people under them." Which brings the inconvenient side effect of "knowing your country is literally paved with corpses."

See, I thought the whole roadcorpses thing was horrifying when I found out, but it kinda makes a sick kind of patriotic sence. Literally running your economy on the backs of your (enemies? Your politics are crazy so still don't know who got buried for what.)

So's most of Europe. And the only reason America isn't is because the natives got stuck at the hunter-gather stage until the Europeans arrived and so they didn't have the numbers or the organization to slaughter each other in an efficient way.
The Aztecs woul like a word with you.

I'm just sitting over here in the USA waiting for the second wave of Corona Cooties to hit, never having belonged to an HOA, and not able to imagine signing a contract to let others dictate the minutae of how I keep my property.
Its become a running joke among my small social circle who is no longer taking this very seriously that "any day now!" the bodies will be piling up. We are around the 2-week mark since Georgia opened up, yet the wave of casualties predicted by the journalists and bureaucrats infailible virus experts has yet to hit.
Any day now.

There was one case like that over here (Poland), the staff of a privately owned nursing home simply fucked off when the virus came along, leaving a single nurse to take care of everyone. The regional gov't representative delegated some public healthcare workers to replace them, but most refused (to be fair, many had legitimate reasons). He later got some political flak, but honestly, what the hell was he supposed to do? Fortunately this was just an isolated case.

Patient abandonment gets your license pulled in the US.

It wasn't for patriotism. Just a case of "fuck it". And also, we also don't know who got buried for what either. Because no one bothered checking, basically, since you have to dig longass ditches for the roads anyway, if you gotta bury a few hundred at a time you might as well dig a bit deeper and start filling. You know if you don't care about human decency. Theoretically they started doing that to quickly bury all the "republicans" from the civil war (and anyone they couldn't verify as 100% loyal got thrown in too. And some generals just didn't give a shit and threw everyone at the ditch 'cause fuck bureacracy) but then after the war the regime kept going full draconiand and turning everyone into slaves to fuel their expansion plans, so people died of exhaustion in the ceaseless expansion? To the ditch, they were clearly traitors for not taking the abuse anyway. People dying on the concentration camps? Well those were already branded as traitors anyway. Even when their only crime was being gay, or having done something at the times of the 2nd republic that was now illegal, or just straight up got sent there just cause. People on the factories dying to industrial accidents due to poor machine maintenance? To the ditch. The local mayor couldn't bury peoplenfast enough due to a plague outbreak? Probably traitors, god was clearly punishing them. The greys got a new batch of so called traitors? Fuck it. And btw the greys. They were the "anti communism" cops. But for instance the one they nicknamed "Billy the Kid" had a reputation for literally always declaring everyone he was sent to investigate a traitor. He literally executed and branded as communists 100% of the people he looked into Imperial Inquisition style. Fucker's still alive, and he still has a medal as a national hero for his "unwavering loyalty to spain", yeah that's a fucking thing. So really. Don't as us. If you ask the left they'll probably have a mental breakdow. If you as most right wing people they'll have it too. But the PP got to make the laws. And their answer is "communism", which seems to be their answer to everything they don't understand.

Btw take into account, again, spain is majority catholic. Catholics think if you're not buried on holy ground you're denied entry to heaven. So you can imagine just how brutal this was to morale. Some small villages went as far as paying a priest to bless their roads as a middle finger to franco. Some fucking inhumane shit went down.

Nah, I consider our HOA a toy that's fun to play with when it gets froggy, not a "level of government." It's a neighborhood busybody committee with lawyers. I treat them with all the respect they deserve (i.e. none) but keep it jovial and cheeky when forced to interact with them. We don't really do anything to attract their attention (besides this goddamn lawn) in the first place anyway. Not being afraid of going to court probably helps too. I've never said it to them directly, but I'm certain they've picked up on the between-the-lines "lol do it faggot" in my responses to them when they mention their lawyers. Annual dues are only $300 or so, and the budget they mail out every year shows they don't actually litigate anything and they're not exactly sitting on a big war chest, so we're confident that their bark is far worse than their bite.

I know this is a bit off-topic now, but would you mind indulging me? How much do you pay total to the HOA, city and county? It's perfectly cool if you're not comfortale saying so. I'm just curious because the system I live under is so different. I just have the city that I pay property tax to and we pay them around $1,200 a year and that covers everything, water and sewer, garbage pickup, etc.

HOA's about $300 per year. Property taxes hover around $2,500 per year and go straight to the county, and that covers all services (police, fire, garbage collection, etc.) except electrical, water & sewer. I'd have to double-check but I think we're in an unincorporated area, so there's actually no city government with jurisdiction over us. It's just the county.

Hey, at least thanks to that horrifying bit of history, we know where to look for the real amount of Chinese deaths.

Yeah, it should. Unfortunately the media never followed up the case, focusing on the politician involved instead (yes, journalists are useless everywhere in the world it seems), so I have no knowledge if the personnel suffered any consequences.

To follow up on @HonsPonzud 's posts, I happen to remember that over 8500 nursing home residents died in France. That's one third of their total deaths. Anyone have similar data for other countries?

Nice. We have that here too but there are no counties, so when you are in an unincorperated area the lowest level of government above you is the province and your property tax is $0 and there are no building regulations or bylaws or anything. You pay a flat rate for garbage pickup and fire protection(usually around $300/year). Dig your own well and install your own septic tank. Usually in one of those areas if you want a new playground or something like that, the people who want it just get together and have a fundraiser and hold bake sales and shit to raise the money. I tried to get the wife to move to one of those areas a couple years back about a half hour from where we live now but she wanted to stay closer to town because there are more programs for the kids. I don't mind the property tax because there are some nice parks and walking trails and stuff here, but I hate the regulations.

They did start this mess by sanding their own roads to keep people from escaping wuhan. Which makes you think. But I believe they've decided to just flip the oven to full 24/7 and open the door to throw people in as they turn to dust.

Amerca: hahaha money printer go brrrr
China: hahaha smoke printer go ffoooooooowwwssshhh

Approx 1200 deaths in nursing homes in Scotland, more than 1/3 of deaths.

Given that even counting NYC and bloating the death count literally as much as humanly possible they can only get the death count to 1k a day nationwide, there's no excuse for a lockdown anywhere anymore.

20k infected, 800 dead, 16k recovered? Sorry. but the outbreak panic is just done. It makes me wonder how many states have only a handful or zero deaths yesterday.

All political, my friend. These little Hitlers are addicted to their power trips. THEY never miss a paycheck. They don't care how much people are hurting economically. They LIKE fucking us over at every turn. Will be surprised if these house arrests end without major violence. But they have planted the seeds of something very bad, whether they realize it, or care, or not, and that's the rupture of the bond between people and government/law enforcement. Could even see a movement where people publicly state they no longer consent to be governed by such people. Speaking for the USA only.

Not much for the UN, but believe they have a point here.

Last night was watching a YouTube clip from that day. Reporter said Major League Baseball was planning to start on 4 July - with NO fans. Give me a fucking break. Have my streaming subscription but very difficult to see myself watching such games.

Baseball is relaxing at the stadium and interminably boring at home.

It's been interesting how the Australian media have been doing things.

Business as usual for the ABC. There's a reason why Aus/pol/ has a QandA hatewatch/ bingo thread. They're as scummy as the BBC over in the motherland.

Hmm, California's locking people up, New York's outlawing protests... New York and California, where have I recently heard of those two places together recently....Dammit! It was in a Qanon drop. Magician Roy Horn Of Siegfried & Roy Has Died Of The Coronavirus At 75

Roy Horn — one half of the tiger-toting and extravagant German magic duo Siegfried & Roy, who became world-famous for their Las Vegas nightlife show — died Friday of the coronavirus. He was 75.
Horn died in the Mountain View Hospital in Las Vegas, according to a media statement to several news outlets.
“Today, the world has lost one of the greats of magic, but I have lost my best friend,” Siegfried Fischbacher said in the statement. “From the moment we met, I knew Roy and I, together, would change the world. There could be no Siegfried without Roy, and no Roy without Siegfried."
Responding to Horn's death, magician David Copperfield described him as "a wonderful artist, a legend."
"Roy gave so much to entertainment and our community," he tweeted.

Siegfried Fischbacher, left, with Roy Horn in 2014, some nine years after he was attacked by one of their tigers.

Horn was born in Germany in 1944 as Allied bombs rained down toward the end of World War II. His mother, Johanna, left her three other children in a basement in order to cycle through the carnage to her sister's place to give birth, according to the magicians' website biography.

At a young age, he befriended his family dog, Hexe, while his stepfather struggled with alcoholism and the family sank into post-war poverty.
“I was a prince and Hexe was my unicorn,” Horn said. “We ran, we flew; out there we knew no boundaries—we were free.”
Sensing his affinity with animals, his mother's friends organized for Horn's birthday for him to have access to a zoo where they served as patrons. It was there that Horn grew an affinity to the zoo's tiger and cheetah, beginning his love for wild cats.
While working as a waiter on a cruise ship in the late 1950s, Horn met Fischbacher, who had been working performing magic shows, and teased him that his show needed scarier animals to be more entertaining.
It was the beginning of a multi-decade partnership that saw them tour first the seas, then Europe, then North America, and the world with their levitating tigers and vanishing elephants.
A 1989 New York Times piece on the pair described their show as "a sorcerer's extravaganza, a pageant of Las Vegas glitter and circus glitz."
The performance involved 55 cast members, 24 big cats, an elephant, a python, and an understudy python "just in case."
The pair established a decades-long residency in Las Vegas and were even parodied on The Simpsons.

Cruise liners are being forced to huddle out in the open ocean. Why? Well, none of them are flagged to a country with the docking resources to offer emergency assistance. Their officially designated nations incapable of offering any assistance let alone a port of shelter

Gonna play my tiniest violin for them.

I know these type of guys. In my head I call them "Dougs" and they've been out in full force lately.

Their big thing when we're out of something is to say "well why don't you order more?!" as if the problem is that we're just too stupid to order it and not that there are shortages and other supply chain issues. Lol at them asking "well can you check the back room?". I do it to appease them, but there ain't shit back there.

Some people seem to think products are just magicked into being out of nothingness, with no realization off all the moving parts that get something from raw material to the shelf of a store.

I was just reading that Clorox and Lysol will probably not be able to meet the demand for wipes and spray until the summer, they just can't produce it fast enough. It's behind a paywall for me now so I can't archive, but here's the WSJ article.

Is it the ones that have 'equivalents' . E.g. take 1mg of pure Vitamin A , or so many mg of beta carotene ?
IU lets the doc specify the effective amount.

Completely guessing.

ETA:
google says, yes , something like that

The fat soluble vitamins are expressed in IU to specify the biological effect, regardless of the source to account for different conversion efficiencies.
What does "IU" mean in vitamins ? (Archive)
Just to add to the IU discussion a bit, I’ve seen mcg for Vitamin D when it’s in multivitamins, but most Vitamin D only supplements still have the IU listed first and then maybe mcg somewhere too.

Years ago, I had to take prescription Vitamin D. It was a 50,000 IU dose once a week or a little over 7,000 IU per day averaged out, so I imagine it’s pretty difficult to overdose. Plus a lot of people in northern climates are deficient already.

Went to check in with MyLittleBloggie for some Wuflu lunacy and he didn’t disappoint...

I guess pointing out that the meatpacking plants are disease vectors because of the migrant living conditions is raycis and genocidal.

It seems the damage to morale Germany's lockdown is inflicting is starting to pick up pace. In my experience when the riot police starts charging and protesters start getting violent it means discontent levels have reached max acceleration, much like with a pandemic bell curve. And that train has no stopping anymore.

I am really sorry for the Germans. I may hate their leaders and the EU they created. But the population doesn't deserve what's coming if my predictions are right. To kiwi krauts like @Stoneheart and @Romanes eunt desu domus only tip I have is our islands have already started accelerating reopening past supposed phase 1 (by which I mean are already practically unofficially reopened) and specially canary islands have opened frontiers to german planes. I know as much for a fact. And the islands generally do as they please so risk of political dumbassery is low at this point, they need tourism asap and will be grateful for it. So it might be a good moment to seek temporary refuge while the worst part of the storm clashes.

We are fully under control of the fucking Deep State funded Warren Buffet / G. In every countries they typically scared the shit out of nurses / carers in elderly homes, they completely fled their job and these care units for elders, litterally leaving them there to rot, dehydrate, starve, untreated, unattended to, at the point where people started to wonder why no one was coming in or out, in Belgium some of the most in shape elders took the risk of going out and reaching to citizens, then the government only sent the army and police to replace the nurses ( Right, continue clapping for these cowards, exceptional individuals

We’re leading the country in both unemployment rate and percentage of deaths coming from nursing homes. :heart-empty:

This is quite the interesting little note in the slides for the “MN Model”...archive
