Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I just find it funny that a thread on Kiwi Farms has been weeks ahead news wise then the media. I remember people posting the information contained in that article weeks ago. I get more up to date news on a site i originally found because of Chris Chan and Jonathan Yaniv. Sigh.
Many Kiwis have made the same observation. I'd never have imagined this site as up to date new source when it was someone's unnatural obsession for an obscure Oz character that led me here.

Does anyone have an idea about why it would be spreading so much in the meat packing plants? Is it just people in close proximity? Are places like fulfillment centers having the same issues?
@Allakazam223 has largely answered this, but my layman self wonders if it's possible for COVID-19 to use blood or other fluids associated with meat processing as a conduit to spread, especially with workers in such close proximity who may or may not be taking the necessary precautions.

I'll probably post it in the reopening threads if it hasn't already been, but Indiana's governor has apparently come up with a plan to reopen everything by July 4 with social distancign so long as the numbers allow it. I wonder how many other states will slowly follow suit.

It's weird that loads of people eat beef from shitty industrial slaughterhouses and so few of them die to be honest. On the upside, I guess if you know what you're doing when you cook it, it's safe because you sterilize the surface which is where the contamination is.
Lysteria is pretty much everywhere/everything until you sanitize.

It's an extremely convenient event.

Don't get me started on the possible future layers of suck.
WWIII? A total possibility, nationalism will be at another high after this. Anti-Chinese fervor, whether the left like it or not, will be rampant. I can only fear the worst.
Some of these people won't have proper closure because they weren't at their loved ones side when they passed on. Emotional wounds may heal, but the scars will last.
The economy will be utter trash. Sure, it will probably recover, but that's just more piles of pain to add on. The only bright side is that the job market is better, but only because those who passed on left those jobs.

People weren't dying early on because California cities are more spread out. NYC is on a network of islands, so people are crammed. It's easy for a virus to spread that way. I can't speak for Italy, I wouldn't know how the population density works, but since it's smaller than Cali anyway, I'm putting my money on the density.
We could just lock up all the entertainers in a camp. Here's Seth Meyers and Jeffrey Tambor talking about 'Transparent': 'We won't stand for this misgendering!'

What happened to Tambor? He got canned from the show because of accusations of sexual assault

https://web.archive.org/web/20200405051301/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transparent_(TV_series)

That's peak degeneracy right there. Some dude trying to teach us about a fashionable issue like ending misgendering and then getting canned because of multiple accusations of sexual harassment.

His response to this?

https://web.archive.org/web/20200121174637/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Tambor#Response

He claims the pressures of portraying a trans character were to blame for him being 'difficult' and 'mean' but denies sexual harassment.

The other Seth Myers/Tambor video is how Tambor was high at his Bar Mitzvah.

I think this is the mental state some people in power are aiming for, tbh

On a serious note; the continuous data blast of numbers, speculation, theories and the need to keep cross referencing everything to make sure what your reading is not old news, bullshit etc can jelly the brain. It might even become a specific mental disorder with the combination of information/disinformation, stress, anxiety and paranoia .

Kind of dumb to suggest everyone who is prevented from working could get a job as an essential worker. In fact, the whole thing is dumb.

Oddly enough if you look at the comments on Raw Story the consensus is that Cuomo was right and pwned the reporter with facts and logic but on Youtube, the response is that he's a horrifically bad leader and should go.
Let me guess, it really started in a bat cave on the outskirts of Gotham..
It does. Spanish hospitals are using it along many other treatments. If it didn't they would've already sounded the alarm.
Remember guys, if women were in charge, there would be no wars!
I don't know about that, chief: my ex gf had a thicc booty and a spanking f

My internet's been fucked up over the past week or so, and I had to get a new router. This means I haven't been keeping track of any news or major updates (sans Joe Biden's groping Tara Reade): are there any major news breaks regarding Corona? I've noticed more businesses opening up in my town, and no one seems to be really talking about it. I can't tell if it's because the virus is slowing down (and that it's already peaked), or that life is just carrying on and we've adapted to it.

I think people are just kind of over it. I'm in one of the states where they still have shelter in place active, but no one seems particularly panicked or anything. I went for a run in the park today, and it was pretty packed, but only about a 1/3 of the people were wearing masks, and the number of people who were wearing them correctly was pretty small. People wear masks to go to the supermarket, but otherwise everyone seems anxious to get back to living normally. I got an email saying I could sign up for Coronavirus testing without a doctor's recommendation at Rite Aid, but I have no idea how many people are signing up for it or if many people even care anymore.

Yeah, that's kind of how it is here. Everything seems essentially normal, except everyone is wearing masks, and the businesses are closing early. Some of the grocery stores still have lines out front, but others don't. Most of the local restaurants are still closed, and the ones that remained open have absurd price gouging. The sidewalks are full of people jogging, walking dogs, pushing strollers, etc.

It's weird that loads of people eat beef from shitty industrial slaughterhouses and so few of them die to be honest. On the upside, I guess if you know what you're doing when you cook it, it's safe because you sterilize the surface which is where the contamination is.
If you don't like the results of the big producers you really aren't going to like it if the little ones get put under the microscope. Butchering animals is dirty work.

There isn't some magic that protects the little guy from this stuff. They have the same problems but fewer funds and looser oversight. The big places pretty much have the USDA and Dept of Health on staff. Small places see the health inspector about as often as your local taco truck does.

It's why these big slaughterhouses got flagged as "clusters" to begin with. Their health and safety protocols are way better than everywhere else.

Sounds like kitty landed on her feet.
I just found out the poor girl tossed into the street was taken in by a foster. The rescue took her to the vet and kitty got a clean bill of health. Hopefully she'll live out her retirement years in a forever home where she'll get lots of love. Lots of texts from neighborhood people vowing to never shop there again and some want to report the owners of the bodega to humane law enforcement. We'll see.

Why didn't they just take the cat home? It's a cat. They sleep all day and shit in a box. They are like the most chill easy to care for animals ever.

Back from doing excercice. So let me take a page out of Uncle Joe's page and blog about that before doing the political news. And those will be funky today. But first of all some geographical background, I'll try to make it entertaining:

Cadiz is the southernmost province of spain. Cadiz Capital is a peninsula on said province. A very small and thin peninsuka off to the side, connected by one of its extremes... Basically Cadiz is Spain's micropenis. It, it's actually fairly phalic overall in fact. I'll drop a map:

S marismas map.png

As you can see the peninsula is connected by a very thin landbridge with a beach to the side. A very long beach that almost wraps around. Though there's chunks of rocky facade and walls and the bay side area past the port is... well it's a beach. But it's a shit beach. Very thin with lots of rocks and dirt and plants. And once you actually get to the other side of cortadura, nothing. Let me illustrate it with a photo:

ply117_imgCA-210.jpg

So basically that big ass megabeach is the best area to exercice. And it really is big. I mean, compare the photo to the map. That shit's ginormous. Here's a stylised pic too so you can see the geographical distribution better:

246081cef8ded6a19e9a5e5967737dc8.jpg

So as you can imagine people who want to exercice go to sta maria del mar/la victoria/cortadura. Though most just call it la victoria actually. Either that or playa el chato, more on that later. It's a great place to walk up and down. Well. Today was the 1st day of reopening, and we're on phase 1 due to high density. So people between 15 and 60something yo can only exercize I don't remember which hours in the morning or between 8 and 11 of the afternoon.

As I told ya this morning. Morning was nice and relaxed, everything went fine. I went down at 8. HOLY MOTHER OF FUCK. I had not seen this much people exercicing at one time. It was almost as much people on the beach as during tourist season. Only they were all walking up and down instead. So, as you can imagine social distancing was... not great. Masks are optional over here (gifted on public transport and shit like that for safety but never mandatory) so most people wore no mask. I carried one and planned on carrying it by the string and only putting it on when near people (because exercizing with a mask is hard as fuck and a good way to get dizzy.) But with so many people I just wound up wearing the mask until I couldn't take it anymore then saying fuck it. I mean. I was already infected once anyway, might as well see if reinfection can happen. It has less of a chance to kill me than lack of oxygen. God it was hard.

Either way. I did my usual schtick, which is walking until I literally can't keep on, then trying to walk back as fast as my strength lets me (without running or stopping), and I can get very far. So let me illustrate you the typical route. First you start on playa la victoria. I mean... Either that or santa maria. But I don't know where the limit is, nor do most people, so if you ask the locals they'll tell you it's la victoria anyway, unless they're pedantic history nerds. So then you get to the fuerte de cortadura, as it is historically named. Or La Muralla, as the locals call it. (Which literally means "the wall.") Here's a pic of that beauty.

muralla_playa_cortadura.jpg

Once you cross the line you're officially into Cortadura. Though the locals either call it playa el chato or think it's still playa victoria. Seriously, our history books talk about cortadura being outside cadiz, so most don't get that the town has grown into it, and they just think cortadura is past el chato. Which is kind of hilarious once you realize La Muralla is literally called Cortadura's Fort officially. Anyway. Once you cross the wall you're also past the walkway, which means you're unlikely to see many tourists and general beach goers. Which for regular beach biz is great intel but for today doesn't matter. So then you walk until El Chiringuito. Wanna guess why it's called that way? Here's the pics.

chiringuito en cortadura.JPG

There's a nice parking there and it has food and drinks so it's a good spot for beachgoing. It also makes for a good landmark. Past this point most casual walk people turn. If you meet people exercizing it's the hardcore mofos and idiots that need to lower their weight like my sorry ass.

29-La torre el Chato la via y la autovia.JPG

Finally you have El Chato. Pic above. It's a nice restaurant. Got another parking. Great spot for beachgoing. It is about 10 to 15 minutes from el chiringuito so again good landmark. This is when even idiots like me tend to turn if we aren't breaking ourselves. Past this point only massive fitness enthusiasts remain. Well that and me when I am breaking myself.

That. Is the usual routine. Today I went well past el chato. And it still felt great. Seems being stuck exercizing home has done a number on my psyche 'cause after the shower my whole body hurts. But more on that later. Point is, it seems most people were suffering of the same. Because holy fuck. Not only el chato. While I was on the way forward I kept meeting people coming back, I swear like dozens of mofos made their way to mainland fucking spain. Holy fuck that was a lot of people. On the way back I met less. Which was probably because of the time, because holy shit was I walking for a loooooong time.

On the way back I thought on the way there I should've made pics of the amount of people. Sadly it was too late. I made a few pics anyway since the sunset was beautiful, so here they are:

20200502_212441.jpg

20200502_212434.jpg

20200502_212429.jpg

I also thought I should take pics on my way there tomorrow. But to be frank. I don't know if I'll be able too. Not because of the fact that my whole body hurts after walking so much. Though that too. But because, well, remember how I told you that I don't usually live in cadiz except on vacation and only came here shortly before the lockdown? Well. I did not go walk on the beach since last vacations. So I did not notice my shoes got holes in there. And sand can enter those holes. And a lot of it did. And when sand enters the shoes it basically chainsaws your soles. When this happens to you, you need to take off your shoes. Believe me. Walking barefoot will be quite pleasant. It is to begin with. I didn't do it because I planned on going faster. But my dumb self didn't have a bag for the shoes and instead of just carrying the shoes on my hand like a reasonable adult I realized it didn't hurt as much and kept going on. Protip: although your feet don't hurt in the morning. After the shower they fucking will. A lot. Holy fuck, my feet feel like they're on fucking fire and I'm fairly sure I have a ton of ampollas. Fuck it hurts so much... so yeah. I think tomorrow I won't be able to stand up, and even if I do, I need to fix my shoes. So we'll see if I can send pics.

On the meantime while writing this I was sent a video of how the cathedral's walk looked. Daym. Here it is:

And finally, politics. The right wing's gone full bypollar again. Both claiming the government is comunistic for locking down and saying that it needs to be lifted NOW while also claiming the government is responsible for our deathtoll for not locking down hard and fast enough. Right wing andalucia is being the fastest to open and laxest with its rules while right wing madrid is the slowest and harshest, which would make sense based on density except they're both insulting the government for not forcing all other communities to follow their lead while PP segment of Congress claims the government is too authoritarian for forcing ANY rules on the communities. Welcome to political hell. Even right wingers are memeing it up at this point. They managed to unify everyone. Now only the karens and crazies take them seriously. Fuck the political landscape so hard.

I agree that more people in general seem to be 'over it' in my experience in England. Although the stay at home orders are still in effect the difference from 4 weeks ago is big. Way more cars out on the roads, more shops and businesses finding ways to open. The definition of 'necessary' is being stretched to within an inch of its life.

The thing is here the lockdown was successful because it was embraced, it did not need to be strongly enforced. At the start it had massive support but now people are bored of it, have seen the threat of the virus was overstated, don't see any official reopening planning and need their lives to get back to normal.

Because restrictions have a fair amount of leeway and no great threat of punishment behind them people are just going ahead and doing it. I see tradesmen who swore off certain jobs a few weeks ago just getting on with it now. People who delayed moving house are now doing it anyway, although the guidance is exactly the same.

The government is already too late in lifting restrictions. Whatever benefit the lockdown had is now probably having a 'boy who cried wolf' effect and people are sick of the whole thing and not bothering with any of it. If they had instead stuck with sheltering vulnerable people, no mass gatherings, social distancing and handwashing then people would probably be observing those more rigorously.

The CDC just revised their death totals down to 37K.

Oops.

That page is 1-2 weeks behind, and has been at ~37K for a while, according to archive.today. (archives)
CDC said:
COVID-19 death counts shown here may differ from other published sources, as data currently are lagged by an average of 1–2 weeks.

This other CDC page is up to date and is still at ~64K. (archives)
